The Position:

The Research Assistant position is located in the sub-Regional Office and reports to the Technical Advisers and Specialists. S/he provides UNFPA’s annual planning, monitoring and reporting processes, data collection and results based management initiatives as well as maintains and updates databases in support of planning, monitoring and reporting. The Research Assistant is part of a team that provides integrated programme and technical support within a systems strengthening approach fundamental to UNFPA’s overall strategy.  The Research Assistant will support the Technical Advisers and Specialists with the compilation, analysis and presentation of information and data related to UNFPA thematic areas.

Job Purpose:

The Research Assistant contributes to the development and implementation of effective regional and country programmes in the Pacific by providing support in the design, planning, management and monitoring of UNFPA’s programmes in the following functions:

• Research Support

• Knowledge Management

• Administrative support

Requirements:

Education:  

Completed secondary level education required. 

First level university degree in public health, social sciences, development studies, public policy, statistics or other relevant field with research background is desirable.

Knowledge and Experience: 

Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in programme, research or related field is required;

Previous experience in the UN is an advantage;

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;

Computer literacy - Word, Excel, Power-point, etc.;

Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet, database, presentation, and  statistical packages will be an asset;

Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

Good writing and communication skills;

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Languages: 

Fluency in English and knowledge of the local language is required.
