In remarks to the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on 13 September, UNFPA Executive Director Thoraya Ahmed Obaid stated:

“We convene our last session for this year with heavy hearts full of sadness for the tragic events of Tuesday and fears for the times to come. I pray for tolerance among people and countries. The General Assembly resolution and the words of the Secretary-General condemning terrorist attacks in the United States of America speak for all of us. My colleagues and I at UNFPA extend our condolences to the people and Government of the United States of America.”
