Philippines Humanitarian Emergency

The Philippines is among the most disaster-prone countries in the world, experiencing multiple powerful cyclones each year, which cause widespread damage. The country is also vulnerable to earthquakes. Additionally, forced displacement continues in the Mindanao region as a result of conflict between government forces and several armed groups. UNFPA provides women, girls and young people who are displaced or affected by natural disasters with sexual and reproductive health and protection services and distributes dignity kits to respond to the hygiene needs of pregnant and lactating women. Boys and men are engaged in awareness-raising sessions on gender-based violence in emergencies. To strengthen preparedness, UNFPA prepositions supplies such as emergency reproductive health kits and emergency maternity tent sets and works with the Philippine Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development and other government partners to enhance linkages between humanitarian assistance, development and peacebuilding.
