Haiti Humanitarian Emergency

UNFPA Haiti

Haiti is highly susceptible to natural disasters and is facing growing food insecurity. Humanitarian needs are exacerbated by worsening political and economic instability and civil unrest. Existing systems are unable to adequately meet people's health and protection needs. Within this context of growing insecurity, lack of livelihood opportunities and lack of access to education, women and young people are exposed to increased risks of physical and sexual violence and exploitation. Reports of gender-based violence (GBV) have increased, but access to prevention and response services has been significantly disrupted. UNFPA is providing reproductive, maternal, adolescent and newborn health services and information, including through mobile clinics to reach people in remote areas. To strengthen prevention, mitigation and response to GBV, UNFPA supports one-stop centers for GBV survivors and invests in capacity strengthening of health professionals and local stakeholders such as the Haitian National Police.
