The United Nations Population Award ceremony will take place on 8 July at the UN Headquarters in New York. The annual awards recognize outstanding contributions by individuals or institutions to population and reproductive health issues and solutions. The event will be broadcast live on UN Web TV from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
The laureates are selected each year by the Committee for the United Nations Population Award, which is made up of 10 UN Member States, with the UN Secretary-General and UNFPA Executive Director serving as ex-officio members. The award, established by the General Assembly in 1981, was first presented in 1983 and includes a gold medal, a diploma and a monetary prize.
