At a moment of unprecedented funding cuts and disruption to HIV programming worldwide, the 26th International AIDS Conference brings together government ministers, researchers, donors, communities and UN partners to chart the future of the global HIV response under the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.”
The conference is a critical opportunity for UNFPA to reinforce a simple but often overlooked truth: HIV prevention works best when it is not delivered in isolation, but integrated into the family planning, maternal health and broader sexual and reproductive health and rights services that people already trust and use.

Satellite session:
Accelerating HIV prevention 2030

UNFPA is partnering with civil society on this satellite session that will focus on how sexual and reproductive health and rights, comprehensive sexuality education and youth leadership can unlock choice and agency as primary HIV prevention strategy. The session, co-convened with ICW Global, Frontline AIDS, ICW Global and LetsStopAIDS, brings together a panel of civil society, community, youth, government voices and UNFPA will set the scene on the global HIV prevention landscape.
Other engagements:
- From its Latin American programmes, UNFPA will cover the UNAIDS transition, HIV response among indigenous peoples and South-South cooperation, as well as leaving no one behind with a focus on key populations. Strengthening integration of HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights will also be a focus.
- UNFPA’s West and Central Africa Regional Office will present new evidence on comprehensive sexuality education and youth engagement, as well as address issues including youth-centred HIV response, integration of sexual and reproductive health and rights, family planning and HIV prevention for adolescent girls and young women.
