UNFPA, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) host a dialogue on the State of the World’s Midwifery (SoWMy) 2021 report.

The heads of the three lead agencies will open the dialogue; a wide range of panelists, including ministers of health, key partner organizations, midwives and other health-care providers will present key findings and policy messages from SoWMy 2021 and what the implementation of country recommendations would mean for sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health.

The global policy dialogue will highlight strategic priorities that can reduce mortality and morbidity and increase access to health services and quality midwifery care that improves the health of women, newborn and families.

As a result, Member States and other partners will know the capacity of midwifery care to provide quality, evidence-based Sexual Reproductive Maternal Newborn Adolescent Health (SRMNAH) services, informing the conversation on the Global Strategic Directions for Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery 2021-2025 to be discussed and endorsed at the 74th World Health Assembly starting 24 May 2021.
