Held during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, this high-level side event will unite Heads of State, international financial institutions, donors and civil society leaders to pledge new commitments to financing for reproductive health commodities.

The event is co-hosted by UNFPA, Family Planning 2030 and the Governments of Madagascar, Mozambique, Norway and Spain.

Across the globe, a lack of access to safe, affordable reproductive health commodities – including modern contraceptives, maternal health medicines and HIV prevention supplies – is a major barrier to health equity. For example, globally an estimated 259 million women who want to avoid or delay pregnancy are still not using safe, modern methods of contraception.

Despite progress, global efforts on reproductive health are not keeping pace with growing demand. Meeting this challenge calls for a new approach to commodity financing – one that places countries at the centre and mobilizes support from all sectors to fill critical gaps.

This event aims to:

* Spark new donor investments in reproductive health commodities;

* Showcase new commitments to domestic resource mobilization for reproductive health commodities;

* Reinforce the importance of partnerships and collective action in bridging financing gaps for reproductive health commodities.

Through multisector partnerships and innovative financing mechanisms such as the UNFPA Supplies Partnership Match Fund, transformation is possible.
