Pakistan Humanitarian Emergency

UNFPA Pakistan/Asad Zaidi

As one of the most populous countries in the world, Pakistan remains a major humanitarian concern. Inter-communal violence and clashes between the military and non-state armed groups have displaced over a million people and created recurring insecurity. The country simultaneously hosts a large number of refugees and is prone to natural disasters. With pervasive poverty, inequality, and a population in which half of all individuals are under the age of 25, ensuring that those in need receive family planning services and have access to skilled birth attendants is especially critical but significantly challenging. UNFPA in Pakistan works to provide sexual and reproductive health services and supports mechanisms to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
