Indonesia Humanitarian Emergency

The Indonesian archipelago is located in a region that is highly prone to natural disasters, especially earthquakes but also tsunamis, vulcanic eruptions, floods, droughts, landslides and cyclones. The impacts of these disasters, including deaths and injuries as well as other health risks, material losses and destruction of public infrastructure, interferes with national development. More than 97% of Indonesians live in disaster-prone areas. When disasters occur, UNFPA supports the Indonesian government on the reproductive health (RH) and gender-based violence (GBV) components of the response. This includes, for instance, support for Women Friendly Spaces and Youth Friendly Spaces, which provide GBV and RH services and information, including psychosocial support.
