Ecuador Humanitarian Emergency

Ecuador is both a transit and destination country for refugees and migrants from Venezuela. On their journey, refugees and migrants face increased risks of sexual violence and exploitation, human trafficking and smuggling. In Ecuador, access to livelihood opportunities presents a major concern, compounded by difficulties in accessing information as well as basic services such as healthcare and education. Incidents of discrimination and xenophobia against refugees are another growing concern. UNFPA focuses on improving access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning services and information, as well gender-based violence prevention and response, in partnership with Ecuador's Ministry of Public Health. Strengthening existing local and national capacities constitutes an important priority. The response strategy is designed to address the needs of both Venezuelan refugees and migrants as well as their host communities.
