Help Newborns and Mothers Survive in Sudan

Nearly three years into conflict, Sudan is facing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. More than 9 million people have been displaced, most of them women and children. Health systems in many areas are overstretched or no longer functioning, leaving pregnant women and newborns without lifesaving care.

The risks are severe. 12.7 million people are at risk of gender-based violence, mostly women and girls facing exploitation and abuse. Many mothers lack safe places to give birth or access to skilled health workers, putting both mothers and babies in danger.

Despite these challenges, UNFPA is working to keep maternal and newborn care alive. In early 2026, UNFPA and partners reached 25,000 people with life-saving reproductive health services and delivered 750,000 health supplies and emergency kits to support care across 13 states.
