Pregnant women and newborns are among the most vulnerable in conflict

.

The fragile ceasefire in Gaza has paused immediate attacks, but the humanitarian crisis for women and girls remains catastrophic after two years of relentless conflict. The damage to healthcare, homes, and communities is widespread, and urgent needs far exceed the limited relief currently available.

UNFPA is critically concerned for women and girls in Gaza, including the estimated 50,000 pregnant women – of whom more than 5,000 are expected to deliver in the next month; these women are cut off from safe delivery services as hospitals come under attack and the health system unravels, with life-saving medicines, fuel and electricity running out.

In the West Bank, 73,000 pregnant women face restricted access to healthcare due to curfews and movement limitations. UNFPA-supported mobile clinics and midwives are providing medical and reproductive health services to displaced and remote populations, but the scale of need remains immense. Every delivery kit, incubator, and medicine supply is critical to prevent further loss of life.

Along with partners, UNFPA is working to help provide critical life-saving services, including addressing the availability of out-of-stock reproductive health supplies for pregnant women and new mothers. UNFPA's network of midwives will be activated to offer support while maintaining connections with hospital-level specialists. UNFPA is also supporting hotlines to provide information and counselling services to women and youth.
