Norway stands as a steadfast supporter of UNFPA's mission for women and girls. Aligned with its priorities for development cooperation, Norway is dedicated to strengthening women's right to decide over their own bodies. This commitment is reflected in global efforts to improve women’s, children’s and young people’s health, fight major infectious diseases, strengthen health systems in the poorest countries, and promote access to sexual and reproductive health services, particularly in crisis and conflict situations. Norway prioritizes girls’ education, gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health and rights, among others. Ending female genital mutilation, comprehensive sexuality education and disability are other priority themes for Norway.

The Government of Norway is among the largest contributors to UNFPA's core resources, which are considered the most efficient investment as they enable long-term planning, flexible responses to emerging priorities, and sustainable support for human rights-based programmes that improve the lives of women and young people.

As one of our largest humanitarian contributors, Norway is committed to providing life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable women and girls. The Government of Norway also supports UNFPA’s efforts to promote rights-based adolescent and youth development; programmes to end child marriage and teenage pregnancies; and initiatives to enhance reproductive health and rights and combat gender-based violence. Funding from Norway supports UNFPA Supplies and the Joint Programme to end female genital mutilation.
