About Lois
Abraham
Lois Whetstone Abraham was born in San Francisco in
1933. She grew up in the Salinas Valley and graduated
cum laude in English from Stanford University in 1955.
She met her future husband, Dick Abraham, when he was
in graduate school at Stanford, and they were married
in 1954. Working in the electronics industry, they
lived in New Jersey, Texas (where their three children
were born) and Arizona, returning to California in
1977.
While she was living in Arizona, and after her third
child started school, Lois obtained a law degree from
Arizona State University. Lois and Dick now divide
their time between Taos, New Mexico; San Francisco;
and a winery project in Australia.
Lois considers herself very lucky to have both a fulfilling
personal life and legal career. Her three grown children
are healthy, happy, productive, and now facing the
challenges of raising their own children. Her career
has involved intellectual property rights, litigation,
mediation, and arbitration in the electronics field,
keeping her close to the development of the semiconductor
industry and the subsequent revolution in personal
computer and communications technology.
A long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood, Lois
took action to counter the U.S. Administration’s
cut of funds to UNFPA because she believes the change
hurts the U.S. national interest and is brutally harmful
to women and children who need help. She believes that
citizens have the responsibility to speak out and become
involved, and that sitting back and doing nothing is
not an acceptable option.
