UNFPA has collaborated with the World Health Organization to prepare a list of essential drugs and commodities for reproductive health services, including commodities for prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS prevention. The list of commodities is presented in four major categories as follows:

Family planning: including hormonal contraceptives, intrauterine devices, barrier methods, implants, creams and jellies.

Maternal and neonatal health care: including anesthetics, analgesics, antibacterials, antiseptics, oxytocics, vaccines and vitamins. Supplies for health care providers include kits for emergency delivery, professional midwifery and blood transfusions.

Reproductive tract infections: including diagnostic tests and antibiotics

HIV prevention: condoms and drugs to prevent mother-to-child transmission
