Spring 2013 — Since the beginning of conflict in Syria nearly two years ago, over a million people, mostly women and children, have been registered as refugees in neighbouring countries. Between December 2012 and January 2013, more than 255,000 Syrians fled the country.
With 4 million people inside Syria who are in need of assistance, including more than 2 million internally displaced people, some 200,000 women will likely be pregnant this year. UNFPA, through its implementing partners, continues to provide clean delivery kits and reproductive health services, including emergency obstetric care and psychosocial support within Syria.
In neighbouring countries, such as Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, UNFPA has distributed dignity kits, trained medical personnel, and equipped clinics and hospitals with equipment and reproductive health kits. The Fund continues to emphasize the specific needs of women and girls that must be factored into humanitarian response to the region.

Towards Increased Services for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Syria
NIZIP, Turkey — More has to be done to ensure the health and wellbeing of women and children affected by the Syrian conflict, said Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of the UNFPA, on a recent visit to Turkey's Nizip refugee camp, about 40km east of the southern city of Gaziantep. One of Turkey's newest camps, Nizip houses some 10,000 refugees, or "guests" as the government prefers to call them, in white canvas tents and containers arrayed in neat numbered rows along the rocky, sun-bleached banks of the Euphrates. more07 May 2013
Syrian Women Giving Birth in Exile
ZA'ATARI, Jordan — In a tent hospital bed, a Syrian woman who was four months pregnant when she fled her country's civil war cradles one of the newest residents of this dust-swept refugee camp: Her newborn son, just delivered by Caesarean. UNFPA Accepts $5 Million Donation to Syrian Humanitarian Response from Kuwait
GENEVA — UNFPA accepted today a donation of $5 million from the Government of Kuwait to respond to the urgent needs of displaced people in Syria and of refugees in neighboring countries. UNFPA Turkey Provides Hygiene Kits to Syrian Refugees
As the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey steadily increases, another batch of 20,000 hygiene kits provided by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) are being distributed to new arrivals in the 14 camps set up by the Turkish authorities. The kits include sanitary napkins, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other items helping refugees to maintain daily hygiene routines under the harsh conditions of camp life. more17 December 2012
