United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG)

UNEG is a professional network that brings together the units responsible for evaluation in the UN system. UNEG aims to strengthen the objectivity, effectiveness and visibility of the evaluation function across the United Nations system and to advocate the importance of evaluation for learning, decision making and accountability. UNEG provides a forum for members to share experiences and information, discuss the latest evaluation issues and promote simplification and harmonisation of reporting practices.

The Evaluation Branch actively supports inter-agency cooperation and the UN reform process by participating in five UNEG taskforces:

  • Human Rights and Gender Equality
  • Evaluation practice Exchange 2013 Seminar Organizing Committee
  • Norms and Standards
  • Harmonization of Evaluation
  • National Evaluation Capacity Development

In 2012 the Evaluation Branch will contribute to knowledge management efforts within the area of evaluation between United Nations partner organizations as part of the UNEG Evaluation Knowledge Management Group.

UNEG Work Program for 2011-2012

In 2011, the UNEG Human Rights and Gender Equality taskforce produced a Handbook providing step by step guidance on how to integrate human rights and gender equality throughout the evaluation process. This practical tool is directed at evaluators, evaluation managers, and programme managers, both within and outside the UN system.
