Whether it is human trafficking, domestic violence, crimes committed in the name of honour or passion, child marriage, female genital mutilation/cutting, or sexual violence, which in many conflict situations has reached alarming proportions, violence against women and girls constitutes a shameful crime that is too often shrouded in silence and too seldom punished.

Increasing urbanization has resulted in for the first time more than half of the world’s population living in urban environments. Given this fact, the importance of understanding the specific linkages between urbanization, greenhouse gas emissions, and vulnerability to the impacts of climate change has never been more necessary. From a mitigation perspective, the key questions regard the role and type of urbanization and urban growth in the speed and form of climate change. This side event will begin with presentations targeting these themes, and will conclude with a guided conversation on the way forward for integrating the concepts and case studies into climate change response. read more
