Global Leaders Dialogue on People of African Descent: A Journey Towards Equality
Coming shortly after the first International Day for the People of African Descent, UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem hosts a dialogue from Panama on where the world is in advancing both the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, adopted in 2001 in Durban, South Africa and which proposed actions to fight racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance, and the more recent programme of activities of the International Decade for People of African Descent.

International Day for People of African Descent 2021
After a December 2020 resolution led by Costa Rica, this year marks the inaugural observance of the International Day for People of African Descent “to promote greater recognition and respect for the diverse heritage, cultures, and contributions of people of African descent to the development of societies, and to promote respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of people of African descent.”
