Ban Soon-Taek, wife of UN Secretary-General and Activist, Visits UNFPA-Supported Projects in Sierra Leone

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone - The United Nations Integrated Peace building Mission in Sierra Leone formally ended its operations after 15 years, marking a transition from the United Nations’ political mission to a more development-focused presence.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his wife, Mrs. Ban Soon-Taek, visited the country to mark the occasion. While in Freetown, Mrs. Ban and First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma visited various UNFPA-supported programmes, including the Dworzak Community Health Centre and the Aberdeen Women’s Centre, which provides maternal and children’s health services, including fistula treatment.
