One Week in the Life of Wasim Zaman, UNFPAs Representative in India MONDAY
Morning
- United Nations inter-agency meeting to discuss joint programmes.
- Meeting with the World Bank Representative and USAID Chief of Health Section on the
Governments reproductive health framework and assistance to India.
- Discussion with national population programme officers and other staff members on
programme implementation.
- Lunch with the development editor of the Hindustan Times.
Afternoon
- Meeting with the United Nations Resident Representative on bilateral assistance and on
the Programme Review and Strategy Development (PRSD) recommendations.
- Discussion with Secretary of Health, State Government of Himachal Pradesh, on the
Himachal Pradesh Area Development Project.
TUESDAY
Morning
- Meeting with programme staff on the reproductive health programme and annual expenditure
review.
- Discussion with United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) on UNFPAs
commitment to womens issues in the new country programme.
- Lunch with national programme officers.
Afternoon
- Meeting with Joint Secretaries of Youth Affairs, Family Welfare and Women & Child
Development on possible projects for next country programme as recommended by the PRSD
report.
- Desk work: correspondence, reading documents and dictation.
Evening
- Tea with Regional Chief of Population Council, Dr. Saroj Pachauri.
WEDNESDAY
Morning
- Discussion with project officer on evaluation of advocacy project with opinion makers,
youth groups and the media.
- Call on Minister for Foreign Affairs, Government of India.
- Lunch with the Country Support Team based in Nepal. Discussion on reproductive health
logistics.
Afternoon
- Visit to a Delhi NGO to discuss its work with adolescent girls.
Evening
- Keynote speaker at the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries on strengthening
Indias social sector budget.
THURSDAY
Morning
- Meeting on evaluation of child survival and safe motherhood programme with Government of
India.
Afternoon
- Meeting with Junior Professional Officer on projects in Bhutan, followed by
teleconference with UNDP Resident Representative in Bhutan.
- Leave for Jaipur on a visit to monitor Rajasthan Area Project.
FRIDAY
- In Jaipur, meeting with Secretary of Health, State of Rajasthan, and field visits to two
primary health care centres and three subcentres; meetings with Jan Mangal voluntary
workers.
SATURDAY
- Leave for Delhi in the afternoon. Early evening, arrival in Delhi and visit to office to
deal with correspondence.
SUNDAY
- Phone discussions with staff.
