| Girls' access to education is more limited than for boys because of traditional and cultural attitudes and practices, lack of adequate school facilities, and gender discrimination. Because of such factors the gender gap in schooling still persists. Closing the gap is an important challenge to policymakers, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia where gender differentials in primary enrolment are largest. |
