Des millions d’Iraquiens ont été déplacés à la suite de combats entre les forces du gouvernement et des groupes armés de l’opposition. Depuis l’intensification des violences en août 2014, des dizaines de milliers de personnes ont cherché refuge dans les monts Sinjar, une chaîne de montagne désertique. La situation d’urgence s’est complexifiée avec l’arrivée de centaines de milliers de réfugiés fuyant la crise qui sévit dans la Syrie voisine.

L’UNFPA aide à fournir des services obstétricaux de qualité aux femmes enceintes touchées par la crise, en distribuant des kits de santé reproductive pour les soins prénatals et postnatals aux hôpitaux et aux centres de planification familiale. Le Fonds appuie également la distribution d’articles d’hygiène aux femmes et aux filles en âge de procréer. Il travaille par ailleurs avec ses partenaires dans les cliniques et les espaces sécurisés des camps et des refuges afin de fournir des services de santé essentiels aux femmes en âge de procréer, et soutient la prestation de soins psychosociaux destinés aux femmes et aux filles victimes de violence ou de traumatismes.
