Overview
Partnership is the lever through which UNFPA is able to carry out its broad mandate to promote the right of every individual to a life of health and equal opportunity and to reduce poverty by ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.
The three UNFPA European Liaison Offices give the Fund extra leverage in these areas by strengthening relationships with crucial partners located in Europe. These include governments, parliamentarians, UN agencies, NGOs, academia, media and the private sector. These partners have been instrumental in calling attention to UNFPA’s essential contribution toward the ICPD Programme of Action and the Millennium Development Goals, two critical international frameworks for improving lives the world over.
The key functions of the European Liaison Offices are policy dialogue with stakeholders, representation at important meetings, advocacy, resource mobilization, and media relations. The offices are strategically located: The proximity between the Geneva Office and major UN partners, between the Brussels Office and the European Union institutions, and between the Nordic Office and key supporters enhances the Fund’s ability to work closely with its core constituencies.
