Thirty-first Triennial Congress of the International Confederation of Midwives
This meeting brings together midwifery associations, partners and supporters, with the aim of promoting and strengthening midwifery programmes and associations around the world. A delegation from UNFPA, including midwives working in the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, will be attending the Congress. The Executive Board held a one-hour commemoration ceremony for UNFPA Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, on 6 June 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. International Day to End Obstetric Fistula
Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during childbirth. The condition typically leaves women incontinent, as well as subject to infections or other health conditions. Women with fistula are often shunned by their communities. Yet the condition is almost entirely preventable. Its persistence is a sign of global inequality and an indication that health systems are failing to protect the health and human rights of the poorest and most vulnerable women and girls.
