UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, today mourns the loss of two of its staff members and all persons who died as a result of Tuesday’s bombing in Algiers.

UNFPA senior management has conveyed condolences to the families of Adnane Souilah, the Fund’s Assistant Representative; and Kamel Sait, a National Programme Analyst. Each one of them is survived by a wife and two children. Both were Algerian.

All of UNFPA is in pain over the loss of two very committed colleagues, as well as all other persons who have died. Our prayers, thoughts and sympathies are with their families and loved ones in these trying times. UNFPA also expresses its condolences to the Algerian people who have lost so many loved ones.

In addition to the two who have died, a few UNFPA staff have suffered injuries, while one is still unaccounted for.

Every possible measure is being taken to help those affected and their families.

UNFPA yesterday joined the Secretary-General and others in condemning Tuesday’s bombings in Algiers.
