CHAD
2. Armed violence and displacement in Chad, aggravated by the conflict in neighbouring Darfur (Sudan) are worsening already high rates of maternal mortality, HIV prevalence and sexual violence for hundreds of thousands of refugees and internally displaced persons.

CÔTE D'IVOIRE
3. The conflict that ravaged Côte d'Ivoire in 2002 is officially over but peace remains elusive. Thousands have been displaced, and rape and HIV infection are common. In the worst-hit parts of the country, health services are non-existent and data systems need to be restored.

OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY
4. Since the beginning of 2006, political, economic and social conditions have sharply deteriorated for Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory. The inability to move freely within the territory is also impeding access to health services and forcing pregnant women to give birth in highly precarious situations.

SOMALIA
5. More than 15 years of civil war, combined with years of severe drought and famine, have had devastating consequences for the health and well-being of the Somali people. The rate of pregnancy- and childbirth-related deaths across Somalia is among the highest in the world.

UGANDA
6. The long and brutal civil war in Uganda has displaced more than two million people, putting them at great risk of disease, exploitation, malnutrition, and sexual abuse and exploitation.
Although there are has been some progress towards recovery, many Ugandans still live in crowded and unsanitary displacement camps with limited access to health services, while others have returned home to areas that have been devastated by conflict, with little capacity to provide for the health needs of returnees.

WEST AFRICA
7. Poverty, disease, natural disaster and the lingering effects of years of conflict continue to undermine the health and security of millions of people living in West Africa. Maternal mortality is high and displaced women and children in many places are highly vulnerable to sexual violence and exploitation, increasing their exposure to HIV.

ZIMBABWE
8. Women and children are particularly at risk as the situation continues to worsen in Zimbabwe. Maternal and neonatal mortality have spiked in recent years as access to basic health services and critical obstetric care has declined. Displacement is contributing to an escalation in sexual violence. Zimbabwe also has one of the highest HIV-prevalence rates in the world.
