The young were once considered relatively safe from HIV/AIDS. Today, more than half of all new infections strike people under the age of 25. Girls are hit harder and younger than boys. Infant and child death rates have risen sharply, and 14 million children are now orphans because of the disease.

REFUGEES - UNHCR |

The trauma of war, violence and persecution, followed by the misery of exile, are often the sad destiny of refugees. The plight of the uprooted is even worse in parts of the world affected by HIV/AIDS. Not only are refugees accused of spreading HIV and other diseases, but they are often excluded from multi-million dollar HIV/AIDS programmes.

LABOR - ILO |

Why AIDS is a workplace Issue?AIDS is a workplace issue because it affects workers and the families, enterprises and communities that depend on them. At the same time, the workplace has a vital role to play in the wider struggle to control the epidemic. Workplace programmes support prevention, expand access to care and treatment, and promote non-discrimination.

HEALTH - WHO |

Underdeveloped health systems are hard-pressed to deliver essential services, and the AIDS epidemic adds to the strain. Supporting the health sector through renewed political commitment, increased global resources for HIV/AIDS, a stronger evidence base on cost-effective interventions, and expanded access to antiretroviral therapy presents a unique opportunity to strengthen health systems as a whole and mount a stronger overall response.
