Educating adolescent girls and young women is now a priority in Mauritania. UNFPA has played a catalytic role, setting up girls clubs, providing IEC materials on HIV/AIDS and reproductive health and sensitizing local political and religious leaders. Here girls in the remote desert community of M'Bout are learning to read and write; most of them were school dropouts before the project began.
