Objective/s/Goal:
The overall goal of the project is to promote the health and well being of low income and disadvantaged adolescents, both boys and girls, by creating an enabling environment for the promotion of adolescent reproductive health and healthy lifestyles, eliminating prejudice and discrimination against adolescent girls and increasing communication between parents and their children regarding adolescent health issues.
Implementing Agency/s: UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, UNIFEM, WHO
Status on Project Activities
Adolescent health promotion campaigns are being conducted at schools and at summer camps to enhance knowledge and attitudes on health issues and to promote healthy life styles. Service providers, youth supervisors and youth peer educators are being trained on reproductive health and gender issues. Outreach activities such as educational seminars with university students, summer camps and motivational campaigns in villages have been effective in empowering many adolescents. Positive dialogue between parents and youth is narrowing the gap between generations through interactive plays and roundtables on reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual health and young people’s behaviour.
